So what’s the story behind
House of the Robin
How did this all come about? Well I’m Mara and that’s me kissing my darling husband Ian on our wedding day. We live in an old house on the Durham coast in the North East of England. In fact that house is kind of responsible for all this.
You see it’s an old house and needs some tlc. Ok, what it really needs is renovating. However, renovating a house is stressful so I dug out my old candle making kit and started making wax melts. A little bit of scented luxury in all the chaos. It’s amazing how a smell can change your mood and help with your overall well being.
An uplifting scent in the house has really helped to combat the renovation blues. It’s so easy when there is building work going on for the house to start to feel like a cold impersonal shell. However, some cozy uplifting scents from a wax melt or candle can turn it back into a home.
House of the Robin is born.
Being the somewhat obsessive person that I am, the wax melts started taking on a life of their own. When Ian suggested I sell some alongside my artwork House of the Robin was born. Why that name? Well our family name is Robinson and we also have a friendly resident Robin in our garden whose antics we can sit and watch for hours.
As for the renovation, well that’s still ongoing. Unlike on the TV shows and social media these things take a long time. Much as I’m desperate to have it all done, we’re taking our time so we can get it right. Meanwhile I’ll keep dreaming of how wonderful it’ll be and making more wax melts to stay calm.
